Canned pumpkin shortage may spoil the holidays

Friday, November 20th, 2009

I use at least six to eight cans of Libby’s canned pumpkin every year during the holidays, so you can only imagine my reaction when I read an article in the Wall Street Journal that stated the company “may deplete our inventory of canned Libby’s pumpkin as we approach the Thanksgiving holiday…”  OH NO!  Are they serious?  What is Thanksgiving without Libby’s canned pumpkin?!  Apparently, the heavy rains have damaged the pumpkin farms in Morton, Illinois so much, that the Nestle company, which owns the Libby’s brand, will not pack any more pumpkin this year.

So, I guess this means that I will now head on down to my local grocery store to stock up on enough canned pumpkin to last me through New Year’s… or I could just decide to not do any baking this year…

  2. Oh no! That is too bad. I’m glad that we have a real pumpkin for our pies this Thanksgiving.
