Wow… when I starting writing this post about the beloved children’s classic television program Sesame Street, it quickly dawned on me that I am almost the same age as the show. I remember watching Sesame Street when I was a kid on channel 28 in Los Angeles. My favorite was that song, “…three of these things belong together, three of these things are kinda the same… but one of these things just doesn’t belong here, now it’s time to play our game…” Remember that? I think they still show the classic episodes of Sesame Street on PBS Sprout. The show debuted on November 10th, 1969 and actually featured content that would be considered very taboo by today’s standards. For example, the “nostalgia” episodes show Cookie Monster smoking a pipe, children riding bicycles without helmets, and Oscar the Grouch was just plain mean. However, I’m glad Sesame Street is still around for my son to enjoy. Hopefully he’ll experience the 80th anniversary of the show with his children. Happy 40th Birthday Sesame Street!
