Money Monday: Cheap Valentine’s Day ideas

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, I thought it would be a good idea to share some simple and cheap ways to celebrate the holiday with your family.  Below is a list of things that you and the kids or your sweetie can do to celebrate the heart-filled holiday with love…

1. Make everything heart-shaped.  Buy a cheap heart-shape cookie cutter and use it like crazy on Valentine’s Day.  Make heart-shaped cookies, pancakes, tortillas, cheese slices, bread, brownies, everything!!  This is fun, easy, and cheap.
2. Make everything red or pink.  Buy some cheap food coloring and use it to make everything red or pink.  This may work better with the kids, but your sweetie may find it interesting too.
3. Make homemade cards.  Get some red and pink construction paper, or better yet, use old magazines cut out in heart shapes, and create simple and beautiful homemade Valentine cards to give away.
4. Borrow a movie.  Head to your local library and borrow a family-friendly movie that celebrates love.
5. Make homemade play dough.  Make it in only red and pink colors and challenge the kids to make a Valentine’s Day creation that they can share with others.
6. Make homemade flowers.  This is another fun and simple craft for the kids.
7. Decorate an empty jar with hearts and fill it with cheap candy from the dollar store.
