Book Review: Mom-Over

Written by Dana Wood, the book Momover is exactly the kind of guide I wish I’d had right after I’d given birth.  It’s one of those books that reads like a casual conversation between girlfriends.  Filled with practical and easy to follow advice, this book reassures new moms that they can “get it together” for themselves as well as their children.  Wood divides the book into three sections: Getting It Together Mentally, Physically, and Emotionally.  Each part has specific tips and tricks to help you be a better you.  For example, in the first part she mentions that new moms should (need) to ask for extra help, and she stresses the importance of not feeling guilty for doing so.  In the next part, she offers some excellent advice for getting back in shape and how to look and feel your absolute best.  I learned some interesting things about skin brushing, mail order organic fruit, and do-it-yourself at-home chemical peels.  And finally, in the last section she goes beyond the surface to remind us all that we need the right outlook and to see ourselves as capable.  She also stresses that positive self talk and time outs are useful tools in the “mom care” arsenal.  Overall, I rate this book five out of five stars.  It would make the perfect baby shower or new mommy gift.
