Next Monday, May 3, 2010, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will host a town hall meeting with parent education advocates discussing the role of family engagement in education reform. The live webcast will be available from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. EDT on the Parenting website. Duncan will be joined on stage by 51 moms, representing each state and Washington, D.C., who were chosen by Parenting magazine to attend its Mom Congress on Education and Learning conference for their accomplishments in improving their local schools. Each of the 51 Mom Congress delegates received an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. from Parenting to attend the event May 2nd through May 4th, and will work towards creating Parenting’s “Lesson Plan for Change”, a guide to help empower parents nationwide to get more involved in their children’s education.
