Hopefully, this will make an impact in teaching kids how to make better food choices. I believe that healthy eating for children is the responsibility of the parents and should not be expected from schools, but as we all know, too many families are depending on the government to make decisions for them. This article states that the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act is set to go into effect on October 1, 2010. Schools will operate under new nutrition guidelines and will be prohibited from selling candy bars and sodas in vending machines. Even though I think this is a step in the right direction, this act alone will not solve the nation’s problem of childhood obesity.
